Working out on vacation – Week 5

This past week, I knew that I would not be able to maintain my normal routine since my family and I were going to be camping with eight other families.  The lake that we stay at has high hills and has a lot of outdoor activities.  I consciously made everyday normal camping activities part of my workout this week.

I took my children out kayaking until my arms would paddle no more.  I carried firewood and lifted a piece in each hand several times to flex my muscles until the wood pile was packed.  We got terrible cell coverage where we were located so I would jog 1/2 mile to an area that my cell phone worked then jog back each time I wanted to check text messages or make a call.

I planned out our menu in advance and packed our RV with vegetables, fruits, lean meats, whole grain breads, yogurt and string cheese.  Week five of the Go Green, Get Fit Challenge has been my favorite week so far.

Week five was a raw, natural, family inspired workout week.  It was delightful to walk everywhere and be on the water.  The whole experience was exhausting and exhilarating.  Now that week six is about to begin, we will be marking the half way point.  It is the time to buckle down and finish strong.  That is my focus, starting Monday!
